October 2024 Friends of Unity Blog Hop ~ CASEd It!!

Hello my friends. It’s so nice to have you hopping along with the Friends of Unity blog hop this month. We really love your participation and feedback each month. You are truly appreciated by us all💛

WHAT, can it be October already?!?! Oh my goodness…Time~….just slow down already will ya?!?

Totally off topic (squirrel moment) isn’t the picture above just luscious with color! I love that style of art. I can’t replicate it but I love it, none the less! I digress lol

This month’s hop is all about Casing a card that has. There are soooo many talented individuals in this world. What a blessing that we all can come together to inspire each other in so many different ways.

I have to confess…I haven’t case’d any cards before. My brain gets overwhelmed when I peruse through the vast archives of card creations. I have always loved looking at creations but if I have a creative block…looking at cards causes the block to last even longer. Now if you set me in my craft room and tell me to reorganize my stash…yep…that seems to break the block in a few minutes.

This month’s challenge really has stretched my thought process. I always thought when you case’d something , it had to be exactly the same as the creator of the original card. To my surprise..that’s not the “case” (hehehe) Knowing this change the game for me.

I went to sites outside the Unity page and found some creations the I thought would look awesome when Unity Stamps were used. I found PLENTY. This “Casing” thing is a lot easier than I thought lol. It really takes a lot of stress away from the creative process.

My first Card was CASE’d from Nancy Sheads’ beautiful creation.

I was inspired by her layout, the plaid paper, the number of critters on her panel and the sky scene she created.

Nancy used the edge die the way it was intended to be used. I switched it up and turned it around to ensure a proper fit for my Christmas Crew characters. https://www.unitystampco.com/christmas-crew/

The angled die is from Pretty Pink Posh and the Larger scalloped die is from Gina Marie Designs. The Dot embossing folder is by Gina K.

Unity has such a beautiful collection of plaid paper. I wanted to match the pattern style that Navy used but I thought this plaid style fit a little better with the overall image.

Ok…on to the second card for the month.

This spooky cutie was inspired by Milla from the Penny Black Stamps page. The circle and the positioning of the image in front of the circle are what I focused on with this creation.

The ink of choice for this card was Lisa Horton’s interference ink. OMGOODNESS…i wish i could capture the color shifting properties of this ink. It works so well to bring a little more of the erie feeling to this card. I’m in love with this ink line.

Isn’t the (Boo) to You stamp set from Unity adorable? I usually don’t make Halloween cards, I think this is my second creation in my entire life time, but there was just something so cute about this image. https://www.unitystampco.com/boo-to-you/

The two stencils used are the Shapes stencil and the Moon stencil from Unity. The frame die is from Waffleflower.

Fussy cutting isn’t my favorite part of crafting but it was the only way to achieve the end result for this card. I stamped the ghost then fussy cut his image. The circle stencil was positioned taped down where I wanted it to be. Then I put the moon solid stencil piece when I wanted the moon to be. I inked the yellow first and then the purples. I removed those stencils then used the inner moon stencil to finish the moon image. The pumpkin and hat buckle was colored with Copic Yr68 a few times to get the shading effect.

That’s it for the second card…let’s go on to the last card for this months challenge.

This card was CASE’d from Sue Hastead’s creation for Whimsy stamps. I used her layout to create my card. It’s perfect for showcasing these awesome birdies from the Flock Talk stamp set. https://www.unitystampco.com/flock-talk/

I stamped these cuties three different times to get the accurate spacing for the layout. I’ll explain why that was as we travel through the pictures.

This embossing is from Lisa Horton’s Collection. I thought it added some much needed texture to my card. I admire clean and simple card creations but I have learned that texture and dimension makes me happy and this ef did the trick for me. I know it has a birthday sentiment on it BUT…to my favor…the circle dies did a terrific job removing most of that sentiment so the card could be used as a thank you card instead.

As you can see…the circle die used today was from Gina Marie Designs.

Ok…so something happened, I don’t have any clue what it was, but when I finished coloring my bird friends (the top picture) it looked like there was a haze over the entire page. I don’t know why that would be. I used die inks not oxides for this project. If you can come up with a logical answer…please share it with me💛

The second picture was from having to reposition the birds so they fit into the die cut holes. Then the third stamped panel turned into the end product. I liked the contrast of the orange bird with the white belly better the the tinted belly so that is a plus. I had a lighter hand with the blending brushes this time as well.

When I assembled the card I liked it but it just needed something more. I stamped the thankful sentiment from Papertrey ink This Big sentiment:Thankful set and fussy cut it because the dies for it are out of stock, which I pray will come back in stock soon. I glued the sentiment in place, liked it, but it needed something to make it pop off the page. I made thin strips from black card stock then glued them into place. The card was complete in my eyes.

Well my friends, I hope you all are enjoying this hop and will take some much deserved time to create some masterpieces of your own.

I want to thank you again and let you know how much I appreciate you stopping in to hop along with us. You are what makes this blog hop work the way it should. Your participation is sooo much appreciated. You all are so lovedđź’•

Now it’s on to Jenni’s Blog for some more CASE’d fun. https://wishiwasscrappin.blogspot.com/2024/10/october-2024-friends-of-unity-blog-hop.html
